The RIDERS Seahorse Bronze and Gold Competition #1 and #2 is sanctioned as a Bronze & Gold competition member of Equestrian Canada, 11 Hines Drive, Suite 100, Ottawa, Ontario, K2K 2X1 and is governed by the rules of EC (A602.1)
Any horse entered in any class at a competition may be selected for equine medication control while at the event location (A602.5)
Per Article A801, every entry at an EC sanctioned competition shall constitute an agreement by the persons responsible that the owner, lessee, trainer, manager, agent, coach, driver or rider and horse shall be subject to the EC constitution and all rules of EC and any additional rules set by the competition. It is the responsibility of all individuals participating in any capacity in EC sanctioned competitions to be knowledgeable regarding the EC constitution and the applicable rules of EC and the additional rules, if any, imposed by the competition. Do not participate in this EC sanctioned competition in any capacity if you do not consent to be bound by the constitution and rules of EC and any additional rules imposed by the competition. STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES
Equestrian Canada (EC), the national equestrian federation of Canada, supports adherence to the humane treatment of horses in all activities under its jurisdiction.
EC shall be committed to:

Upholding the welfare of the horses, regardless of value, as a primary consideration in all activities;
Requiring that horses be treated with kindness, respect and the compassion that they deserve, and that they never be subjected to mistreatment;
Ensuring that owners, trainers and exhibitors or their agents use responsible care in the handling, treatment and transportation of their horses as well as horses placed in their care for any purpose;
Providing for the continuous well-being of horses by encouraging routine inspection and consultation with health care professionals and competition officials to achieve the highest standards of nutrition, health, comfort and safety as a matter of standard operating procedure;
Continuing to support scientific studies on equine health and welfare;
Requiring owners, trainers and exhibitors to know and follow their sanctioning organizer’s rules, and to work within industry regulations in all equestrian competition;
Reviewing, revising and developing competition rules and regulations that protect the welfare of the horses;

The standard by which conduct or treatment will be measured is that which a person who is informed and experienced in generally accepted equine training and exhibition procedures would determine to be neither cruel, abusive nor inhumane.

ABOUT R.I.D.E.R.S.
R.I.D.E.R.S. came to be in 2002, when the five founding directors decided that Nova Scotia needed more activities for dressage enthusiasts. We have been providing competitions and clinic experiences since then. In 2005, R.I.D.E.R.S. introduced the Seahorse Dressage Circuit, with the support of the Nova Scotia Equestrian Federation. The Seahorse Dressage Circuit is an EC provincial circuit governed by the Rules of EC, but administered within the province of Nova Scotia through the Board of Directors of R.I.D.E.R.S. The Seahorse Dressage Circuit is intended to provide recognized dressage competitions below the National level, at which competitors can earn provincially recognized year end awards, in the form of beautiful lapel pins. The awards bridge the gap between competitions where competitors have been ineligible for awards and national awards programs, encouraging more riders to compete and to develop the skills and confidence necessary to move to nationally ranked competitions. In 2016 the Bronze dressage competitions offered by Central Nova Horse and Pony Club will again be Seahorse Dressage Circuit competitions, so there are now many opportunities to achieve these annual awards. Thank you to CNHP for helping us to build a thriving dressage scene in our province. The Seahorse Circuit rules were updated in 2011 and are available for download at http://www.dressageridersns.ca /.

REQUIREMENTS
1. Entries in the Bronze Competition must have:

A current EC Sport License at least at the Bronze level. Both the horse owner/lessee, and the person responsible for the horse, if not the same person, must have a current EC Sport License. See the EC website for purchase information.
A current PTSO Membership (eg. NSEF, NBEA, etc.) See your local PTSO website for purchase information.
A current vaccination for Equine Influenza and Equine Herpes

2. Entries in the Gold Competition must have:

A current EC Sport License at least at the Gold level. Both the rider and the horse owner/lessee, and the person responsible for the horse, if not the same person, must have a current EC Sport License. EC Sport Licenses must list amateur status for riders competing as amateurs.
A current PTSO membership. See your local PTSO for purchase information.
The horse must have a valid Horse Recording. See the EC website for purchase of all of the above requirements.
A current vaccination for Equine Influenza and Equine Herpes

3. Entries in the Para-Equestrian Competition must have:

A valid EC Sport License at the appropriate level. Both the horse owner/lessee, and the person responsible for the horse, if not the same person, must have a current EC Sport License.
For Gold level the horse must have a valid Horse Recording. See the EC website for purchase information for all of the above.
A current PTSO membership. See your local PTSO for purchase information.
Rider must be on the EC national classification Master List.
The horse must have a valid Horse Recording. See the EC website for purchase of all of the above requirements.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

When registering for EC Sanctioned competitions, athletes must indicate the name of their Coach on the entry form, or specify that they are self-coached. Coaches from other countries must be in good standing with their home Federation and must declare/have proof of insurance. See Rules of Equestrian Canada, Section A, General Regulations, Article 102, Safe Sport Environments.
For any emergency Veterinary and/or farrier service provided while at the show venue, the owner/person responsible for the horse must pay the service provider in full upon receipt of the provider’s invoice. Failure to do so in a reasonable amount of time will result in exclusion from the next two R.I.D.E.R.S. show seasons. (Four shows)
All horses attending Equestrian Canada sanctioned competitions must have met the requirements of Article A519, Vaccinations. See Rules of Equestrian Canada Section A General Regulations, Article A519, Vaccinations.
Every class offered herein is covered by the rules and specifications of the current rules of EC and will be held and judged in accordance with the EC Rule Book (A602.2).
All entries (rider and horse owner or lessee) residing in EC participating provinces must have a membership from their provincial equestrian sport governing body. (E3.0) Nova Scotia entrants (rider and owner or lessee if not the same person) must both have an NSEF membership.
All documentation (licenses, memberships, proof of vaccination,etc.), must be in order and photocopies included with entry. Proof of vaccination can be a Vet certificate or vaccine purchase invoice.
An equine medication control fee of $4.00 per horse for the Bronze Competition and $7.00 per horse for the Gold Competition will be collected. Any horse entered in any class at the competition may be selected for equine medication control testing while at the event location (A602.5).
All competitors must pay $10.00 per horse for the Dressage Canada levy.
All entry fees must be paid by e-Transfer, cash, cheque or money order, payable to R.I.D.E.R.S. Payment other than e-Transfer must be included with entry form.
Numbers must be worn, and be visible, at all times when horses are outside of the stall on the show grounds, in the schooling and exercising areas as well as in the competition ring. (A814)
Competitors withdrawing an entry after the official closing date but earlier than 48 hours prior to the commencement of competition will be refunded entry fees minus an administration fee of $40, upon the receipt of a veterinarian certificate of disability or a doctor’s certificate. Competitors withdrawing later than 48 hours prior to the commencement of competition will forfeit all fees, no exceptions.
The Competition Committee reserves the right to make changes to the competition schedule. Classes may be cancelled due to lack of sufficient entries. The Committee also reserves the right to limit entries or make any necessary changes to the prize list or program. Competitors will be notified as early as possible of any changes. The onus is on the competitor to be familiar with such changes.
All riders while mounted anywhere on the competition grounds must wear ASTM, SEI or BSI/BS EN approved protective headgear with the safety harness correctly secured at all times. Please note at R.I.D.E.R.S. competitions this rule also applies to riders while mounted on a non-competing horse. Approved headgear must be certified by SEI or another testing body to meet the American Society for Testing Material (“ASTM”) or BSI standard.
Note: At the tack check following the test, the steward may ask the rider to dismount so that the helmet may be inspected for the ASTM/SEI or BSI/BS EN label.
A rider may approach the steward prior to each test to ensure that dress and equipment are in accordance with the rules. IT IS THE ULTIMATE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE COMPETITOR TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH THE RULES. It is the responsibility of the rider to report directly to the steward after completion of each test.
Music for freestyles must be given to the Competition Secretary when collecting entry number. Format for freestyle music can now be on a laptop or smart phone with a headphone adapter. Please check with the office to have music tested before 6:30pm on Friday.
It is a condition of entry that neither R.I.D.E.R.S. nor the Competition Committee will be held responsible in any way for damage, injury, or loss to persons, horses, or property of spectators or competitors.

R.I.D.E.R.S. GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. No phone entries will be accepted. Entries must be e-mailed to [email protected] or mailed, couriered or delivered to the Competition Secretary by Monday August 29th, at 6:00 p.m. :

3. Once the closing date has passed, stabling will be allocated on the basis that competitors traveling the farthest distance will have priority, and stalls will be assigned until full. Changing assigned stalls is not permitted without permission from the organizing committee. Stabling will be $30 per day; bedding is not included and will not be available for sale at the competition. The stall must be stripped prior to departure. Manure is to be deposited in the outside manure pit. Competitors must submit a $25 stall cleaning/bridle number fee, cash or cheque, to be collected when picking up registration package. This fee will be refunded if stall is adequately stripped and bridle number returned. If you do not strip your stall clean, your stall fee at the next subsequent R.I.D.E.R.S. competition that you enter will be double; and if there is a third infraction, you will be suspended from competing for one R.I.D.E.R.S competition.
4. Stabling will be available for horses between 12:00 noon on Friday, Sept. 2nd and 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, Sept. 5th.
5. Dogs must be on a leash and under control at all times.
6. All competitors must pay a $40 per entry Administration Fee. This fee offsets costs and includes a levy for the Seahorse awards program.
7. The Competition Committee reserves the right to disqualify any competitor for unsportsmanlike behavior or breach of the EC or NSEF Codes of Ethics.
8. Riders are responsible for finding their own test reader if required.
9. WARM-UP INFORMATION: Supervised warm-up time slots of 30 minutes will be available on Friday Sept 2nd from 1PM to 6:30 PM. To secure a reservation, riders must reserve a time slot on the entry form. There will be a maximum of 7 riders per time slot. Cost per half hour reservation is $5.00. The competition arena will be closed from 7:00 PM on Friday until the start of the competition on Saturday morning.
10. Riders who are either walking or halting for more than a brief period while in the warm-up area or in the competition arena when open for warm-up should stay off the rail and on the inside track out of respect for the other riders.
11. Lungeing (unmounted) and work in hand may only be done by the athlete, owner, coach, groom or Person Responsible , other than during warm-up times for classes. Lungeing may be done outside the arenas at any time.

13. Introductory and Para-Equestrian tests will be ridden in a 20m X 40m ring. All other tests will be ridden in a 20m X 60m ring.
14. CLASS FEES: Seahorse Bronze Competition: $35 per class; Seahorse Gold Competition: $40 per class.
15. Non-R.I.D.E.R.S. members must pay a $20 fee to participate in each Seahorse Competition.
16. Competitors must pay a fee of $5.00 per horse for Windsor Exhibition Grounds.
17. Miscellaneous Classes are not rated for Equine Canada awards.
18. There will be no CIEC qualifying tests in this competition.
19. Hors concours entries will be accepted, time permitting. These entries will not be eligible for any awards or points. Refer to Article E7.11.11 for details.
20. The substitution of a horse is permitted if the original horse entered is unable to compete, provided this information is given to the Competition Secretary well in advance of their first class entered.
21. Space permitting, horses will be allowed to attend without competing. Applicants must fill out an entry form, include appropriate fees, and submit entry with a signed Liability Waiver. Bridle numbers must be worn at all times outside of stall. Non-competing horses may use warm-up areas as outlined in Warm-Up Information (item #11).
22. Horses are permitted to leave the show grounds during the competition.
23. ENTRIES CLOSE Monday August 29th, 2022 @ 6:00 p.m. Entries received after the closing date may not be accepted. If accepted, late entries will be subject to a charge of $25 per entry. There will be no post-entries.

24. Entries will not be processed and no bridle numbers will be issued until all fees are paid. NSF cheques are subject to a $50 charge, and must be substituted by e-Transfer, certified cheque, money order or cash.
25. Competition Management reserves the right to limit, refuse entries, split, combine, cancel or adjust any classes, to govern all conditions of the show, and make rulings upon any matters not specified by the current EC rules and prize list specifications.
26. RIDE TIMES: Will be emailed to competitors who have provided email addresses by Thursday, Sept. 1st @ 6:00 p.m. Do not phone for ride times. Final ride times will be posted daily at the competition office during the competition.
27. Daily and overnight parking is available for vehicles and trailers on the exhibition grounds. Anyone staying overnight on the Windsor Exhibition grounds must pay a fee depending on services required. Payment must be made at the Office (brick building at the far end of the parking lot). 28. If you would like to advertise in the R.I.D.E.R.S. competition package please email the R.I.D.E.R.S. email address [email protected]. Cost is $25 per advertisement (may be between one quarter page to one page size).

CHAMPIONSHIPS / AWARDS
A Championship and Reserve Championship will be awarded in each level in which there are a minimum of three eligible competitors. The Champion and Reserve Champion at each level will be determined by adding each rider’s top score (percentage) from each day. To be eligible, riders must have ridden in a minimum of two tests in the same level each day. The highest and second highest percentages achieved will be the Champion and Reserve Champion of their level. In the event of a tie, the rider with the highest single percentage point is declared the winner.

High point and reserve high point competition Champions will be awarded and will be determined by adding each rider’s top score (percentage) from each day. In the event of a tie, the rider with the highest single percentage point is declared the winner. Introductory, FEI Test of Choice, and Para-Equestrian classes are excluded from the high point and reserve high point championships.
Ribbons will be awarded to 6th place.

PRESENTATIONS

Ribbons will be awarded at the end of the morning classes and also at the end of the competition day.
Championships and awards will be presented at the end of the competition on Sunday.
Please note: either riders or their representatives must be present at the awards/ribbon presentations or they will forfeit their awards/ribbons.

The tentative schedule for both days is to have lower level tests ridden earlier, progressing to higher level tests each morning and through the afternoon. If however there are time restrictions, the Committee reserves the right to re-schedule the Introductory tests to run either immediately before or after the Para-Equestrian tests ridden in the 20m X 40m ring.
